Following are a
bunch of photos that I'm basically stealing from Jim Miner's site
(well, with his OK, so I guess it's not really stealing!) Jim
has recently purchased a photo scanner and is trolling his attic
for some terrific old photos of the "gang".
Well, for those
of you who have kids that want to be "in a band", remember,
it could be a life long thing! These are photos that Jim Miner,
a good old friend, has transferred to digital from slides. These
are circa 1968 and out of the 8 people pictured, 6 of us are still
playing instruments, some of us professionally, some of us semi-professionally,
some of us just for fun. Yeah, that's me on drums, when I was
maybe 14 or 15!
Check out the "black"
light in front of the bass drum. The weird circular thing
mounted on the table was our home made strobe light. Yes, that's
a Vox amplifier. We later acquired a Vox "Super Beatle".
I almost hate to admit it, but those are the same drums I'm playing
today.

Here's a photo of
Jim and I before our band "Jasper" played at the 1972
Fairfax High School prom. This accounts for the fact that we are
wearing tuxes, something that I have only worn for this prom and
for my wedding. I'm a real GQ kind of guy. Obviously Jim is too,
but he was too lazy to even put on his tie! Jeez, or even his
carnation! And look at the hair on those guys. Freakin' hippies!
We don't have a
photo of Kelly, who wore a black sport coat with a rose in the
lapel, jeans, and a pair of tennis shoes. Kelly's garb caused
Mr. Manning, the school's assistant principal at the time, to
give Kelly what could be considered "the evil eye".
Speaking of being
dressed up, and actually looking REALLY GOOD while doing so, this
is a photo of me and Linda (we were boyfriend/girlfriend at the
time) going to the same prom. That would be Linda to whom I am
referring as looking REALLY GOOD! It's obvious what attracted
me to her, it's not as obvious what attracted her to me!
